Who We Are!

Vision Initiative for Transformation (VITRA) is a non-partisan, non-profit making, humanitarian and development refugees, returnees and host communities led organization that endeavors to restore hopes and transform affected communities in South Sudan. Today’s context requires a vision that can transform communities by linking relief, rehabilitation and development for sustainable impact and therefore, the main role shall be focusing on transforming/catalyzing the change needed.

VITRA envisions becoming an international NGO and the communities it is serving living dignified and fulfilling lives.

At Vision Initiative for Transformation (VITRA), we employ a comprehensive approach that connects relief, rehabilitation, and development to address the most pressing needs of vulnerable communities in South Sudan. Our work focuses on creating sustainable solutions that help build resilience and foster long-term positive change.

Enabling Environment for Relief, Rehabilitation, and Development Activities

We believe that a conducive environment is essential for effective relief and development work.

  • Conducting Assessments and Research: We carry out comprehensive assessments to evaluate the enabling environment for relief and rehabilitation activities.
  • Facilitating Sector-Specific Stakeholder Dialogues: We bring together stakeholders to discuss and coordinate policies and regulatory frameworks to improve the environment for development.
  • Supporting Policy Development: We actively support the creation of policies that foster an environment conducive to relief and rehabilitation activities.
  • Raising Awareness: We create awareness among stakeholders about developed policies and frameworks to ensure wide adoption and effective implementation.

Strengthening the Resilience of Vulnerable Communities Affected by Disasters

We focus on building the resilience of communities so they can recover and adapt to both natural and man-made disasters. Our approach includes:

  • Disaster Preparedness Awareness: We help communities understand the importance of disaster preparedness and equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills.
  • Introducing Adaptation Strategies: We introduce strategies that help vulnerable communities adapt to the changing environment and strengthen their resilience to future crises.

Promoting Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation

Access to clean water and proper sanitation is vital for community health. VITRA works on:

  • Providing Tools and Equipment: We supply communities with the tools and equipment needed to ensure safe water access and sanitation facilities.
  • Improving Water Facilities: We establish, maintain, and improve water and sanitation infrastructure to ensure communities have access to clean and safe water.
  • Promoting Safe Practices: We raise awareness about the importance of safe water and hygiene practices to prevent waterborne diseases.
  • Training Water User Committees: We establish and train water user committees and volunteers to manage and maintain water facilities.

Enhancing Access to Quality Health Care

VITRA is committed to improving healthcare access in underserved areas by

  • Providing Medical Supplies and Equipment: We ensure healthcare facilities have the necessary tools and equipment to provide quality care.
  • Building Health Infrastructure: We support the construction and rehabilitation of health centers and clinics in remote and underserved areas.
  • Training Healthcare Workers: We provide training to healthcare providers to enhance the quality of care and services available to communities.

Improving Access to Quality Education

Education is a fundamental part of our approach to development. We aim to improve both formal and informal education by:

  • Establishing Learning Spaces: We support the construction of new classrooms and learning facilities in remote areas.
  • Training Educators: We provide training for teachers and instructors to enhance the quality of education in our target areas.
  • Providing Learning Materials: We ensure that students and teachers have access to the necessary materials and resources for effective learning.

Foundation for Youth Initiative is a non governmental organization formed in South Sudan in 2011. The mission of the Foundation is to alleviate poverty through entrepreneurship by empowering youths and marginalized individuals to generate prosperity through entrepreneurship, in turn, build assets, create jobs, generate income, and established sustainable livelihood system. The Foundation deploys a participatory approach in bringing solutions to poverty.

Our partnership with Lokimajid Forwarding & Clearing Ltd has been invaluable in enabling VITRA to deliver essential services, such as water supply and infrastructure development, in a timely and efficient manner. Their dedication to providing high-quality services and their capacity to deliver under challenging conditions make them an ideal partner for our operations.

Women’s Economic Empowerment

The Women's Economic Empowerment Project was designed to enhance the economic independence and livelihoods of women in South Sudan. By focusing on capacity building and access to resources, the project aims to improve women's skills, enable them to generate income, and help them gain a more significant role in their households and communities.

WASH Project – Renovation and Construction of Gender-Sensitive Latrines in Schools

The WASH project focuses on improving the health and sanitation conditions of schools in South Sudan. One of the key interventions under this project is the renovation and construction of gender-sensitive latrines, which cater to the specific needs of both boys and girls, ensuring that all students have access to safe and private sanitation facilities.

we are proud to be officially registered with the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) of South Sudan, a key governmental body that oversees humanitarian and development organizations operating within the country. The Certificate of Registration from the RRC affirms VITRA's legitimacy and compliance with the laws and regulations governing non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in South Sudan. This registration signifies that VITRA is officially recognized as a legal entity authorized to operate in South Sudan, allowing us to execute our humanitarian and development programs effectively. The RRC ensures that organizations like ours follow the necessary guidelines for transparency, accountability, and ethical operations.
